Abstract

The landscape of the Kelantan Delta is of varying complexity. Kelantan River itself has built up massive natural levees along its banks. Kelantan delta have several facies which resulted from tidal, waves and river action. Evidently, the morphology of the delta is the product of numerous interrelated geomorphic and hydrological processes of erosion and deposition which operate differently, both in the mainland and marine areas, in time and space. These processes are strongly influenced by the seasonal climatic conditions. In this paper, my study area located at eastem Sungai Pinang, Tumpat (west Kelantan river) until Kota Bharu area (east Kelantan river). The eastern sector is made up of a highly dissected surface feature with a depression running from west to east. This depression is traversed by numerous existing and abandoned streams with levees on both banks. Physical and chemical characteristic of delta sediment were discussed and involved some analysis. They are sediment texture, mineral composition, pH, moisture content, organic content and specific gravity. 10 samples were taken at sand spit, point bar and shoreline area were tested.
