Abstract

Problem associated with waste have become a major problem for years as it effects not only the environment conditions but causing the contamination and hazards in affected area. Knowledge on the Geographic Information System (GIS) to determine suitable landfill zone is important in solving the problem caused by unsuitable landfill area. In lieu of this, a study on the geological factors that contribute to determine potential landfill zone was conducted. The importance of this research is the safe potential location for landfill in Machang Kelantan can be determined and the changes of the physical geology can be trace. Several parameters have been choose which are geology, slope, land use, soil texture and sensitive sites. All the data gathered during in the field is analyzed using ArcG1S version 10 and the data was interpreted in a table and maps The result is an updated map of Ulu Sat Machang and 5 parameter map to identfy landfill ang potential landfill zone is produced. The final result can be proposed to the goverment and NGO'S for further development. The geological map of the area also updated into scale 1: 25,000. It gave more detail and precise information suitable to current conditions.
