Abstract

Bukit Panchuri is one of the areas located at Tanah Merah, Kelantan that undergo the urbanization process in order to increase the facilities and socio-economic of the place. This research is conducted to update the geology map of Bukit Panchuri and its surrounding area with specific dimension of 65km², to investigate the general geology of the study area and to identify and characterize mineral of barite. The method use in geological mapping include terrain mapping to identify the geomorphology of the area and also analysis of rock type, elevation, slope analysis, land use and structural geology that present. While, the methods use in barite mineral characterization are by using petrography method and geochemical methods of X-Rays Diffraction (XRD) and X-Rays Florescence (XRF). Based on the filed observation and mapping, it has been identified that there is 3 types of rock present at the study area which are phyllite and mudstone interbedded with shale. While, the geochemical analysis show the main composition of barite mineral composed of barium sulphate, oxygen and sulphur. The mineral has 98% which allows it to be mine.
