Abstract

The study was about banana disease known as Panama disease. Panama disease is a soil-borne disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. Cubense. The aim for this study is to apply Susceptible-Infected (SI) Model on the rate of infection of Panama disease on banana plantlets (Musa acuminate cv Berangan). SI model is a simple mathematical calculation developed by Kermack-McKendrick in 1927. The experiment was carried out by using 36 banana plantlets that were immersed in the spore suspension with concentration of 5x10⁶ spores per millilitre for 3 different hours, which were 2 hours, 4 hours, and 6 hours. The control was immersed in distilled water. Double-tray method was used to plant the inoculated plantlets. The data were collected based on time of disease incidence of inoculated plantlets. These experimental data were then compared with the SI model by using mathematical software known as 'Matlab'. The collected data is as expected. The percentage of disease incidence for three different time of immersion was increasing and there are no recovered plantlets.
