Abstract

This documentation based on "questionnaire and pest pictures" facilitated interview of 49 respondents (paddy farmers/participants) of Farmers' Organization of Lanas Jedok's response of paddy pest existence, its management practices and some challenges that persist in pest management at their paddy fields as claimed by the respondents. Nephottetix nigropictus, Nephottetix parvus, Nephottetix virescens, Nilaparvata lugens, Recilia dorsalis, Sogatella furcifera, Pomacea canaliculata, Rattus argentiventer and weedy rice have been claimed to be hard to manage (unmanageable) pest. Local residents' increase in interest on consuming Valanga nigricornis, suppressed this pest ti insignificant of existence, while Clearfield Production System usage reported to be an efficient mean of weed suppression. Irrigation deficiency and sandy soil conditions (Kg. Keladi),non -levelled production land (Kg. Panglima Bayu) and young owl's theft (Kg. Kelewek, Kg. Keladi and Kg. Panglima Bayu) are some of the challenges to the respondents in managing pests at theur paddy fields. In general, the respondents' access to paddy pest management knowledge is limited to non-varied sources and the farmer's acceptance of any new pest management strategies is also dependant on several factors, primarily constituting potential cost increase as a major concern.
