Using an accurate sterilization procedure in tissue culture techniques can save time, cost and energy. In this paper, the aim was to select an appropriate sterilization methods and explants for micropropagation of sandalwood tree by using Mercuric chloride, (HgC1₂) and Sodium hypochlorite, (NaOC1) which were act as sterilising agent. Nodal segments and internodal explants were used as the experimental materials to investigate the sterilization results of different concentration of chemical sterilizing agent. 0.1 % of mercuric chloride (HgC1₂) was found to be the proper sterilizing agent for a good response and low infectivity of cultures. Therefore, this study established a surface sterilization method for tissue culture of sandalwood, Santalum album L.
