Wastewater contamination is contribution from anthropogenic activities which pose a great threat and adverse effect on human and environment. The prepared synthetic wastewater which contains heavy metals has been treated using wetland plant by phytoremediation technology. Macrophytes are proved to be efficient in phytoremediation. Thus, the study of Azolla pinnata sp. in the phytoremediation was used to remediate the contaminated synthetic wastewater. The heavy metal was evaluated based on removal efficiency of parameter element (Cd, Cu, Zn, Cr and Ni), ability to change (improve) physicochemical parameters (pH, DO and TDS), as Well as accumulation of parameter elements (Cd, Cu, Zn, Cr and Ni). The synthetic wastewater will be treated in constructed wetland reactor with pant samples (Azolla pinnata sp.) and constructed wetland reactor without plant samples (control tank). The physic-chemical characteristics of the wastewater were determined before and after the treatment. The experiments were repeated for 6 batches of synthetic wastewater with 48 hours of Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT). The plant samples analysis was carried out using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) for both initial and final of the experiments. While, wastewater analysis was carried out using both AAS and YSI 556 MPS for initial and final reading experiments for every batches. Based on result of this study, Azolla pinnata is suitable to be used in phytoremediation treatment for synthetic wastewater due to its ability to reduce the concentration of significant element Ni, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Cr by mean percentages removal (%) with 82.75 i 4.35, 80.04 i 1.56, 70.78 i 6.60, 79.55 1 2.81, and 53.07 i 8.72 respectively. The highest BCF value is Cr, Cu, Cd, Zn and Ni with value 379.85, 241.43, l56.93, 154.84 and 27.07 respectively. Thus, Azolla pinnata useful in reduce contaminant pollutant of heavy metal in water sources.
