A research was conducted in Gelam forest, Bachok Kelantan. The purpose of this research is to study the comparison between diurnal and nocturnal insects using three types of baits (fmit, carrion and scent). Insect trap commonly known as butterfly trap was used in collecting the insects. Insects were collected from three stations. Each station contains nine butterfly traps. The traps were placed at the stations throughout the diurnal and nocturnal periods. Total number of species recorded for diumal insects is 21 and classified into seven orders; Blattodea, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, and Orthoptera. Nocturnal insects recorded 26 species and classified into eight orders; Blattodea, Coleoptera, Diptera, l-lemiptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Neuroptera, and Orthoptera. Diptera order recorded the highest number of individuals for both diumal and noctumal. The Shannon Diversity Index for diurnal insects was 2.514 indicated that moderately diverse. However, Shannon Diversity Index for nocturnal insects was 2.529 with indicated more diverse than diurnal insects. The evenness distribution for diurnal insects was mostly even. While for noctumal insects, the evenness index was less evenness than diurnal insects. Diurnal and noctumal insects were significantly dependent on the baits. There was a statistically significant difference in effectiveness of baits on the diurnal and nocturnal insects which p < .0005. Gelam forest contains various insects that should be preserving for other research and education.
